Welcome to the website of the Hungarian Radical Roma!

While I know everything about you, you don’t know anything about me.” /József Chóli Daróczi)

Take a look around the website and learn about us!

Please, don’t worry when reading the word ’radical’. ’Radicalism’ is not equal to ’violence’.

„Radicalism comes from the idea that in order to release from deep troubles the consistent transformation of rules (system) is needed. It is not sufficient only occasionally help to release of the arisen problem and meanwhile not stop the cause of the problem, since trouble can be repeated then.”

The Radical Roma Civil Rights Movement represented by Béla Radics – myself – began to work 10 years ago. Although it had not been an officially registered movement for long, we have been defending rights of the Roma, the poor and the excluded in Hungary. We have never wanted to become politicians, leaders or representatives, and never had any contract with any political party.

We have always considered the most important task to create a conscious and responsible stratum that can administer its own fate within the Roma and the poor by our community forming and opinion-shaper activities. By now, it has already some visible signs.

We have always propagated a wide range social dialogue within the Roma political public life. We are convinced that even our brother that lives in the most remote ‘putri” (tumbled-down cottage) must have the right to interfere the formation of his own fate.

By the variety of the activities of our civil movement we have generated changes of historical importance and also new and nonconformist values for the Roma communities in Hungary.

We were the first one that started to build Roma communities and open their eyes of the Roma communities by splitting up with the paternal policy of the Roma leaders and representatives of the last 22 years by teaching them to become thinking and self-respective citizens that actively participate in social and political public life. They should not permit anybody else to decide upon their own fate. They are the ones that have to direct their own fate, and in cooperation with each other they have to represent themselves in protecting their own interests.

We were the first that took simple Roma people to the street in order to demonstrate the democratic way without sponsoring the demonstrations by political parties or organisations in relationship to them. E.g. Although in a basic and amateur way we were the ones that organised a demonstration against the racist party ‘Jobbik’. There has not been any Roma organisation or representative that did the same. We were the first in creating a civil Roma media in the form of a blog, in which we sharply kept attacking the actual political elite and political forces. We are permanently instructing the Roma communities to think in an independent an analysing way and participate in social issues in connection to their own life. They must become active formers of their own fate.

In our blog titled ‘Cigány(?)-Romablog Radics Béla’ created on the site ’Hírszerző’ nearly 4 years now we published the words of leaders of Roma organisations of Hungary, famous activists and also famous Roma journalists. Popular blogger Lajos Villás has also began his regular activity in our circle. We were the ones that published his writings for the first time!

We were the ones that both verbally in written form and also personally set our face against the illegitimate Neo-Nazi guard and their founder, the Racist party called ‘Jobbik’. Sometimes we – tens of people - had to face 200 angry Neo-Nazis at a Gypsy residential site. As a consequence, we have saved more than 3000 dangerous assaults on our email address.

It is also of historical importance that we began to create a Roma community communication on the Internet. I have to mention names of some our friends: Ágnes Mátyás, Rozália Molnár Babó, Géza Dányi, Péter Czirok. We were the ones that created the first Roma communities on the community sites.

We are still leading and handling the largest and most active Roma community sites. Our ‘Nemzetközi Roma Internetes Hálózat’ (International Roma Internet Network) of nearly 6000 members connects the Roma community communication of nearly the whole world by now. We have members all the way from Iran to Scandinavia with whom we have already worked together.

We are continually uploading information, since uploading several thousand of pictures, a lot of videos and also documents requires time.
